Now that the winter wait is over, I hope you have been lucky enough to get a peek inside the hives to see how the ladies are managing.
FABKA’s May Meeting
I am pleased to inform you that our next in-person association meeting is scheduled as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 15th May, 2024
Time: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Location: Ballydehob Community Centre
Store Rd, Knockroe, Ballydehob, Co. Cork, P81 FC89
Topic: Spring Management & Swarm Control
Speaker: Eamon Magee
Eamon Magee, a seasoned beekeeper with years of experience, will be sharing his expertise on Spring Management & Swarm Control. This promises to be an informative and engaging session, and will be just in time to help us to treat the upcoming swarming season in a more pro-active – rather than a reactive – response (that I am guilty of myself in previous years).
FABKA Seed Swap
Additionally, we will be hosting a seed swap during the meeting. Please bring along any extra seeds, potted plants, or saplings you would like to exchange. As it will be our first Seed Swap, expect it to be informal & light hearted and I welcome any and all tips and tricks on how to make it successful.
In FABKA we have always focused on supporting the Native Irish Bee and establishing safe conservation areas for these ladies. We will therefore encourage and promote the same for our seed swap.
I ask therefore that please do not bring any species that you know to be invasive.
- Please bring labelled seeds, potted plants, or saplings to exchange.
- Native Irish Species are encouraged.
- Take as many seeds or plants as you bring.
- Extra points for the pollinator loving seeds 🙂
We look forward to seeing you all at the meeting. If you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Warm regards,
Amanda
